About Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle technique that balances the natural circulatory rhythm of the spinal column, allowing for a deep sense of relaxation and optimal functioning of the nervous system.
The craniosacral system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Cerebrospinal fluid is produced by the brain and flows through this system, circulating between the cranium (skull), the vertebral column (the spine), and the sacrum (the lower back).
The natural rhythm to this circulatory pattern can become disrupted by resistance in the connective tissue that lines the inside of the skull and surrounds the spinal cord. When this occurs, the easy flow of circulation is altered and can result in dysfunction throughout the body.
The gentle techniques of Craniosacral Therapy assist the body to resolve these “resistance patterns” and re-establish the natural flow within the body.
What to expect from a Craniosacral Session:
Using a soft touch, no greater than 5 grams of pressure- which is about the weight of a nickel, practitioners evaluate and release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. The quality of the craniosacral rhythm is evaluated and any restrictions or blockages are treated with light-touch adjustments.
The treatment is done with the client fully clothed and the session lasts approximately one hour. The session is deeply relaxing and restorative.
Conditions that can benefit from Craniosacral Therapy:
CST complements the body’s natural healing processes and is a gentle, safe treatment that is appropriate for people of all ages, including newborns and pregnant women. It is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Sinus problems
- Depression & Anxiety
- Cognitive Difficulties
- Learning Disabilities, ADD, ADHD
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Chronic Ear Infections
- Chronic Fatigue
- Hormonal Imbalances
- Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain
- Orthopedic Problems
- Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
In addition to her training in craniosacral therapy and advanced body work techniques, Dr. French has pursued extensive training in meditation practices and energy healing techniques including Reiki, Holographic Healing, and Attunement. She is grateful to have a wide range of tools to help her patients to achieve their optimal potential and to transform patterns that no longer serve them.
